Hello!! Today I come with a personal post. I’m excited to share with you my big news: I’m gonna be traveling around Asia for the next 5 months! So because of my recent arrival to Kuala Lumpur, I wanted to share with you my freelance packing list for 5 months in Asia…
Computer
I always carry with me my Macbook Pro while traveling. It has is cons (like small screen versus iMac) but it’s the perfect solution for a freelance traveling graphic designer like me.
Together with Mohamed we have launched a new Creative Market shop. If you want to download a collection of mockup pictures like this one working from the beach, here you have the link
Paintings
My watercolor papers are big and heavy, but I managed to find a new watercolor palette made from plastic that is way less heavier than the original from Winsor & Newton.
I took into consideration any small extra weight for this long travel. 5 months carrying a backpack around Asia is deserves its planing 🙂
Scanning
During the last year in Morocco I’ve found it difficult to scan my paintings well. Even when I was living in Berlin back in 2015 it wasn’t easy to find a good quality scan service, so imagine near the desert…
Finally those past weeks in Barcelona I did a research and found that the Epson Perfection V39 scanner was the best choice in my case. I had my doubts between the Epson Perfection V39 and the Canon Lide but Epson won.
My DIN-A3 printer is also Epson and the scanner gives me amazing results, plus I found some very bad reviews online about the Canon…
I must say that I’m incredibly stunned with the results so far. It scans super quickly, the quality is amazing and it weights nothing! Plus you only need to connect it to the computer, no electricity needed!
So if you are looking for an affordable scanner to pack with you during your freelance travels, I recommend you the Epson Perfection V39 for sure!
Notebooks & Planners
You may have already read my old post about the best goal planner. I’ve loved using it during my long stays in Morocco or Barcelona, but the biggest con it has is its weight. It’s too heavy to carry around in a backpack during 5 months…
That’s why I gave a try to the bullet planner system. I’m using some old Muji notebooks I had at home, and since I’m in Asia I’m sure I’ll find more amazing light notebooks for the next months.
If you haven’t heard yet about the bullet journal, I recommend you to check out this video. I may be posting soon about it too…
Bags
As I said, I’m traveling with a backpack. But I decided to do something different in this travel. Instead of carrying everything in my backpack, I bought a new suitcase (super cute and with a bright color, of course) and I packed there all the important stuff.
That way I can carry it on the plane with my computer, Mohamed’s computer, my new scanner, the memory, camera, important papers and some extra things.
Now that I finally arrived to Kuala Lumpur I must say this: What a wonderful idea!
I took a flight Monday morning from Barcelona to Marrakech to meet with Mohamed. Then from Marrakech we flew to Kuala Lumpur… The thing is that in my first flight with Ryanair they lost my backpack. Yes… They actually never carried it in the plane so it stayed in Barcelona while I was taking the flights. Now I’m here without my clothes or everything I packed, but luckily I have my new carry-on suitcase with my most important belongings!
I hope I receive the backpack soon though… I only have a t-shirt and lingerie…
Monsoon
We are starting our trip at the end of September, which means that during our time in Asia we will not enjoy sunny days as much as last time we came. When I was packing I had this in my mind and I carried with me my favorite raincoat.
Yes… as you may be guessing it’s in the lost bag… But still I hope I receive it before the hard rain starts!
Another essential I always wear with me is my Uniqlo jacket. It’s the best jacket in the world. So light and so warm at the same time… Really, I’ve seen how many other brands had tried to imitate it but none of them had achieved such a perfect result!
Well that’s all for today. I hope this helps you in case you plan a long trip while working like me. But in case you are not a freelance traveler and just curious about my 5 months in Asia… that was my preview 🙂
Maybe I write more about it… We’ll see!
